Georgia Tech Offers SysML/MBE/MBSE Courses

A note from Russell.Peak@gatech.edu, notes availability of April Short Courses at Georgia Tech. His info: Folks, Some of you may be interested in our recent SysML/MBE/MBSE education efforts outlined below, including our upcoming SysML short courses. - http://www.pslm.gatech.edu/courses/ These efforts and related research and applications are highlighted in our Feb 2010 INCOSE MBSE presentation (including rover competition photos from one of our recent short courses at NASA JPL): - http://www.pslm.gatech.edu/projects/incose-mbse-msi/ (see Primary Overview Publications - Phase 2) Please pass this along to others who might be interested. Feel free to contact me directly with any inquiries or feedback. Russell =========== See www.pslm.gatech.edu/courses regarding educational opportunities with SysML for model-based engineering (MBE) in general and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) in particular. These efforts include: (1) Professional education: SysML short courses and certificate programs The next offerings of our SysML short courses will be April 27-30, 2010 delivered on-campus in Atlanta: Model-Based Engineering Using SysML: - SysML 101 - Essentials for Understanding SysML Models (1 day) - SysML 102 - Hands-On Essentials for Creating SysML Models (2.5 days) Since August 2008 we have trained over 130 professionals at multiple locations with our SysML short courses. What practitioners are saying ... - "I thoroughly enjoyed the course." Senior Systems Engineer (Fort Worth, Texas) - "Very informative." Test Engineer (Pasadena, California) - "Fun class - I especially liked the hands-on exercises and [the rover] project." Lead Systems Engineer (Pasadena, California) See the attached 2-page flyer and web links for course specifics and registration information. (2) Professional education: SysML course and usage in the Professional Masters in Applied Systems Engineering distance-learning degree program (www.pmase.gatech.edu) (3) Traditional university education: SysML usage in several regular academic courses, including: - ISyE 8813 - Systems Modeling with SysML - ME 6105 - Modeling and Simulation in Design ===== See also Note [1] on this page that explains why the hands-on course is especially good for key MBSE people in your organization (regardless of what SysML tool they are using): http://www.pslm.gatech.edu/courses/sysml102/ ===== About SysML: "The OMG systems Modeling Language (OMG SysML™) is a general-purpose graphical modeling language for specifying, analyzing, designing, and verifying complex systems that may include hardware, software, information, personnel, procedures, and facilities. In particular, the language provides graphical representations with a semantic foundation for modeling system requirements, behavior, structure, and parametrics, which is used to integrate with other engineering analysis models." [www.omgsysml.org] SysML has increasing usage in aerospace/defense -- as well as in the commercial and government sectors -- especially for complex systems that involve multiple disciplines (e.g., for applications as diverse as finance/banking, supply chain management, and mechatronics, as demonstrated recently in excavator and mobile robot case studies that also include links to traditional CAD/CAE and manufacturing models).
